Weather maxing map
Tell it what good weather means to you, and it shows where that weather is in any month, then plans a year that keeps you in it. It runs on the same five years of daily data I use to decide where to spend my own months. The idea behind it is in Weather maxing: how I chase the best weather on earth.
1. Your weather
2. Where it is best in November
3. Your 12-month rotation
Starting in November. Average 85/100 with 1 move. Each move has to buy back its cost in better weather, so the plan only relocates when the gain is real.

Best places by month, at a glance
The top three cities for each month with my own settings: highs of 25 to 31°C, dew point up to 19°C, nine rainy days at most, mostly clear skies, strong UV and runnable mornings. Change any of that above and the list changes with it.

How the score works
Each city gets a score from 0 to 100 for each month. Temperature carries the most weight: a month inside your daytime-high range scores full marks, and one 6°C outside it scores nothing for temperature, which also pulls the overall score down. You can't make up for 8°C in January with dry skies. The other criteria are soft limits. Staying under a limit scores well, staying well under it scores a little better, and going over it drops off steadily.
- Humidity uses dew point, not relative humidity. 80% humidity at 21°C feels fine. 55% at 38°C does not. Dew point measures the moisture you actually feel: under 16°C is comfortable, 19°C is sticky, and 22°C or more is oppressive.
- Rain counts days with at least 1 mm. A tropical month with eighteen wet days usually still means sunny mornings and an afternoon storm, so set the limit with that in mind.
- Sun uses mean cloud cover.
- Tan scores the estimated noon UV index: 3 or lower counts for nothing, 8 or higher counts in full.
- Outdoor training looks at the morning low (between 8 and 23°C is runnable), dew point, air quality and rain.
- Seasons compares the warmest month's high with the coolest month's. A gap of 15°C or more counts as real seasons, and under 5°C counts as the same all year.
- The rotation picks one city per month to get the highest total, with a cost for each move. "A few moves" means a move has to gain about 25 points across the months that follow to be worth it.
What the data can and can't tell you
These are 2021 to 2025 monthly averages from the ERA5 reanalysis (via Open-Meteo), on a grid of about 25 km. That is good for comparing places and months, and weaker where a coast meets mountains. The Bali cell, for example, mixes Canggu with the wetter hills behind it, so it overstates rain days on the beach. Air quality comes from the CAMS model for 2023 to 2025. UV is calculated from sun angle and cloud, so read it as a guide. An average is not a forecast either: a single October can be much wetter than the mean. For the next two weeks, check a forecast.
The 82 cities are the ones I track for my own planning, so the list leans towards places with good flights, gyms and work-friendly time zones. Cold-weather and ski destinations are thin, which is why the "Proper winter" preset mostly finds Oslo.
Questions
Where is the best weather in the world right now?
It depends on the month and on what you call good weather. Set the month and your own limits for heat, humidity and rain in the map above. With warm, dry and not-muggy settings, the southern hemisphere (Perth, Buenos Aires, Cape Town) leads from November to February, the Mediterranean and Portugal lead from June to September, and Los Cabos and Southern California fill the gaps.
Which city has the best weather all year round?
No city scores high in every month for every preference. With mild settings (highs of 21 to 27°C, low humidity), Mexico City, San Diego, Honolulu and Madeira hold the steadiest scores. With warmer settings, Honolulu and Los Cabos do. The year table in the tool ranks every city by its twelve-month average for your settings.
Why does Southeast Asia score lower than I expected?
Because of dew point. Bangkok, Singapore, Bali and Ho Chi Minh City sit at dew points of 21 to 24°C for most of the year, which most people feel as sticky or oppressive. Raise the humidity limit or set humidity to "Ignore" and they climb quickly. Their dry seasons (December to February for Bangkok and Saigon, July to September for Bali) are their best months.
Where does the data come from?
Monthly averages for 2021 to 2025 from the ERA5 reanalysis via Open-Meteo, with US AQI from the CAMS air-quality model for 2023 to 2025. Each city is one grid cell of roughly 25 km, so a coast and the hills behind it are averaged together. UV is an estimate from latitude, month and cloud cover, not a measurement.
What is weather maxing?
Choosing where you spend each month so that you live in the weather you like best, and moving when somewhere else is clearly better. The full idea, and how I run my own rotation, is in the weather maxing article.
